On March 12,2025, “ZIJING”- an eco-friendly assembled U-shaped shield pipe erecting machine designed for utility tunnel, independently designed and manufactured by China Railway Science & Industry Group Co., Ltd. (CRSIC) - was officially applied in the Yuen Long South Development Infrastructure Project, Hong Kong. 

As the upgraded version of “XIONGAN”, the world's first eco-friendly assembled U-shaped shield pipe erecting machine for utility tunnels, the machine is specifically designed for open-cut construction, with the length of 45 meters long, the width of 7.5 meters, the height of15.7 meters, and a self-weight of 240 tons. Equipped with an intelligent cloud platform, it can collect real-time operational data and ensure safety through posture sensing.

Cooperating with U-Shaped TBM, it has achieved three major breakthroughs in box culvert construction methods. First, it employs closed tunneling and intelligent assembly technology, reducing earth excavation by 75% and simultaneously lowering carbon emissions by an equivalent proportion. Second, it significantly minimizes the land area required for construction, addressing spatial constraints in densely populated urban areas through intensive construction practices. Third, it has established a new construction model characterized by “reduced manpower, prefabrication, and low-carbon emissions.”

This fully mechanized system not only greatly reduces environmental impact but also drives the evolution of utility tunnel construction technology toward sustainability and intelligence.
